I'm sure the Buckner's will never look at my blog but I really can't thank them enough for what they did for me and my family! Here's the story:
On Thursday April 23 I got a phone call at work. It was the Dean's office from the Weber State Goddard School of Business. (That is the specific school I will be graduating from in December) I had been selected for a private scholarship! All I had to do was write a thank you letter by the next week and attend the scholarship banquet. I couldn't believe it! I hadn't even applied. I had recently just turned in my application to be accepted into the school, which I'm guessing is how they knew I worked in the Registrar's office. The scholarship pays for almost all of my last years tuition. Chris and I feel so blessed and don't know what we did to deserve this but are truly ecstatic. Here are a couple pictures from the banquet. I sat next to Mr. Buckner, intimidating---Yes. Chris and my parents came, it was so nice to have them there. I first off have to thank my husband. He is so supportive and it helps me make it through my semesters. I also want to thank my parents for being there with me and for their support. And a big thank you to the rest of you who have supported me along the way:)
Mr. Buckner served in World War II as a B-17 pilot. He received degrees from Weber State and Brigham Young University. He joined his father in 1946 as partner in the Buckner Insurance Counselors Group in Ogden, he was very successful and was with the company until he retired. He served as president of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1954-1955, president of the Ogden Kiwanis Club, president of the Lake Bonneville Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and as president of the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce in 1988. Mr. Buckner was a member of the Utah State House of Representatives from 1965-1967 and served in the Utah State Senate from 1967-1975. He was a member of the State Board of Regents from 1981-1985 and served as president of the Weber State University Foundation. Mr. Buckner served as president of the Ogden Temple from 1987-1990, and president of the California Sacramento Mission from 1975-1978. He has also served in many other capacities including stake president and bishop. He was honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree from Weber State University in 1994. He received both the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards from the Boy Scouts of America. In 1989 he and his wife were inducted as members of the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce's Wall of Fame.
That was the information on him from the banquet program. Now you know why I was so intimidated! He was so kind and interested in my schooling and in mine and Chris's lives in general. We got to know so much more about the Buckner's at the banquet and were honored to visit with him. I can't thank him and his family enough!

Thats awesome Leslie!
That's really cool! That's sweet you got it without even applying but I think I know why. It's pretty amazing how well your doing in school and how fast your getting it done. I'm sure it's stressful now but it'll all be worth it in December. Good luck with you new semester!
Les!
We are so proud of you! Hurray! Just a handful of months left to go!
Very cool! got to love those scholarships! Now on to graduation.
Hey Leslie! So to make that chocolate is really easy. I used a fondue pot (but I'm sure you could use a regular pot on the stove at a really low setting)anyway just get those milk chocolate (NOT semi-sweet) chocolate chips and a capful of vegetable oil and dip the cinnamon bears in and let them sit overnight in the fridge. They are soooo good, I am telling you.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! THAT IS SO RADICAL. HEY SINCE WE'RE BOTH UTAH FOR THE SUMMER, WE NEED TO GET TOGETHER. I HOPE EVERYTHING IS SWELL.
Congrats Leslie. I was so excited to hear about your scholarship. You are such a hard worker, you totally deserve it. I really admire how much work you have put in to finishing your degree. Good luck with starting your new classes!
